U13 Girls Soccer Update I

The U13 girls soccer team has been busy the past few weeks with practices, a warm-up tournament at Harrow International School and both home and away games. Here are some highlights...

Our first match of the season was away @ISB. Even though the pitch size was strange to say the least, there were no out-of-bounds lines to speak of, and the opposition took forever to put the ball back into play, the WAB girls were able to come home with the victory. initially things didn't look so great, with the girls beginning the match rather flat and uninterested. However with some lucky bounces and ISB continually hitting the posts, rather than the net, they were still in the match at the break. The second half was much different, as the girls rose to the occasion, dominating ISB and scoring at will, easily winning 4-0. Standout performances by Maggie Wu, Sophia Cheung, Ava Brown and newcomer Claire Kennedy-Penuel pushed the girls to victory.

They then attended a Saturday 3-match tournament @ Harrow International school, with games against ISB once again, Dulwich and BSB. The girls began slowly against ISB as they did earlier in the week. But like before, a short period of quality football proved to the be the difference, with the girls coming away the winners by a score of 3-1. They then met a strong Dulwich side, who challenged them throughout the match, winning 3-2. Dulwich Number 38 proved to be a difficult player for the WAB girls to beat, and was the decider in the match. Their final game was against BSB, and our girls dominated them for the duration, winning 2-0, which could easily have been worse for the opposition. All the girls put in a huge effort during the day, but Molly Byrne, Stella de Wit and Tiffany Suryadi deserve credit for their determination throughout the day. Goalkeeper Keang Thon's effort was notable as well with other coaches commenting on her bravery!

After a short break for China Studies the girls got back into action with a match against DCB @ home on Tiger Field. A sluggish first 5 minutes by the WAB team resulted in 2 quick goals by their opponents, and nothing changed for the remainder of the match. Mia Hezel, and newcomers Ella Chen and Aiata Jutard deserve recognition for their efforts, as do Maggie Wu and Sophia Cheung for never giving up.

A solid start to the season girls!
