Tigers Open APAC's 25th Year with 5 Championships
Tigers Open APAC's 25th Year with 5 Championships

It was a historic weekend for WAB athletics. Season 1 sports wrapped up on Saturday, as our Tiger teams competed in four sports for the Asia Pacific Activities Conference tournaments. The athletes returned home with four APAC championships, a handful of runner-up trophies, as well as several personal-best performances.

Let's take a look at some of the highlights of the results.

Girls Tennis: Team Champion, Singles Champion, Singles Runner-up, Doubles Champions
Undefeated in tournament play since August 2018, the WAB girls continued their excellence at this year's APAC championship in Guangzhou, China. The WAB vs WAB singles final was a highly emotional bout and demonstrated the true caliber of our team and athletes. Looking ahead, we will miss our departing seniors and have high hopes for our young players to carry on the legacy. This is the second consecutive APAC championship for the girls team.

Boys Volleyball: Champions
A team that worked hard throughout the entire season, several players showed their commitment by continuing to raise their level to dominate this tournament. Strong hitting, tenacious defense, and resilience despite injury fueled this team's pathway to the top. The team's leadership and youth came together to form a proud group of Tiger champions.

Girls Volleyball: Champions
Throughout the season, and even throughout the APAC tournament itself, we saw this Tigers team continuously growing. A less-than-perfect round robin performance put the girls in a position of having to overcome the greatest odds to reach their goal: First they had to win a quarterfinal and then beat an undefeated first-rank team in the semi-final just to reach the championship. It was after accomplishing those first two steps that the girls truly realized the greatness and potential within themselves and took the championship match by storm.

But the success doesn't stop there. More major accomplishments came from the boys' tennis team, who wrapped up the season with overall team and singles second place finishes. The mixed doubles tennis team also took second place. The WAB boys' rugby team played an incredible tournament, posting a second-place finish in a thrilling final versus Hong Kong International School, while the girls' team finished fourth. In an impressive team effort and constant growth throughout the season, all 14 members of WAB's cross-country team posted personal bests times in their races.
